History of Babine Steelhead Lodge Ltd.
Babine Steelhead Lodge Ltd. was originally called the Babine River
Lodge. It was built on the Babine River in 1960's by the Wickwire
Family and then in 1984 was acquired by two doctors from Montana, until it was purchased by the Stewarts, in 1987.
In 1955 the Stewarts were guests of Norlakes Lodge which was owned
by Ejnar Madsen. The rare beauty of the river, the clean air, brilliant
colours and the magnificent steelhead, drew them back each new
season. The Stewarts have now owned the lodge for over
20 years. The name was changed to Babine Steelhead Lodge Ltd.
Chick and Marilyn modernized and enlarged the kitchen, and added
on a lounge to the dining area in the main lodge. Many wonderful
people were met over the years, many great memories were made.
In 2002, their daughter Wendy and son-in law Barry took over managing
the camp. For the past ten years Barry has been guiding on the
river, and has been fishing the Babine for over 25 years. He also
had the unique experience of fishing with Ejnar Madsen at Norlakes
Lodge. Ejnar passed away in the mid 80s, but left many traditions
that are still carried on at Babine Steelhead Lodge Ltd. |
